Does my computer need to be on in order to make or receive calls, receive voicemails, or forward calls?

Does My Computer Need to Be On to Make and Receive Calls?

Most versions of magicJack can be connected directly to your modem or router, eliminating the need to have your computer on in order to make or receive calls.

If your magicJack is plugged into your computer, the computer must be on to place or receive calls.

For either option, magicJack requires an active and stable high-speed Internet connection.

Does My Computer Need to Be On for My Voicemail to Work?

No; voicemail will work even if your computer, modem, or router is off, or if your magicJack is unplugged.

Does My Computer Need to Be On in Order for My Calls to Be Forwarded?

No. Your computer, modem, or router can be turned off, or the magicJack unplugged, and call forwarding (if enabled) will continue to function.
